Come to Hospitality Center’s 40th birthday party. +PRIDE!  Get art and info, then hit artsy yard sales and don’t forget the PAL fishing clinic+ Stephen Bates in the redwoods for Noyo Center

If you love art and helping the homeless, come to the 40th anniversary of the Mendocino Coast Hospitality Center in Fort Bragg Saturday from 11 a.m to 3 p.m. Plus today is the first PRIDE celebration and a weekly protest in front of the Guest House. (see the end of the story for more info on those two events)

The PAL Fishing clinic takes place starting at 8 a.m. Officers from many departments take part in working with the kids, some of whom get a cop to fill in for dad.

Wow!  Check out the art.  You can buy it, and the money goes to the artist to help them get into transitional housing and fulfill other needs they have.  You can also learn about the Hospitality Center which got a $2.5 million grant earlier this year to expand services outside of Fort Bragg. Thanks so much to Tabetha Connell, who provided me with these photos.

All we are asking is…..The same request John and Yoko made applies today
Here is a fun story panel. I cant wait to see it “live”
I woulld like to meet this artist and ask what they were saying here.. The colors are striking
Doesn’t get more Mendocinop than big redwoods. The perspective reminds me of indigenous art.
This artist told a story of the thrills in Redwood National Park, elk, salmon and maybe a friendly bear?

The Hospitality Center and Fort Bragg Police Department work together to provide winter shelter and other homeless services.

The press release was printed by MendoFever  (to their credit, both Bruce at the AVA and Matt at MendoFever credited it as a press release, while a rival site portrayed it as original work written by a staff reporter.

The state grant for three years brought $1 million to the police department to expand the Care Response Unit.

The cacophony of Noyo Harbor

The Mendocino Coast Hospitality Center gets $1.5 million to expand behavioral health services outside of Fort Bragg to more of the Mendocino Coast. These funds will also be used to dedicate temporary and transitional housing to clients of CRU (Care Response Unit).

The $1 million portion of this grant going to the Fort Bragg Police Department will cover costs, including expansion for a third Care Response Unit team member, whose time will be split between Fort Bragg and county areas from Albion to Westport.  Also a part-time administrative assistant, administrative costs, and other associated needs.

Whimsical and fun cacti

In the morning, the Police Activities League will offer the annual fishing clinic at the Joe Moura pond adjacent to the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens.  Lots of fish have been stocked for kids to catch and the cops will help dads have the fun from 8 a.m to noon.  Here is a story I did on this last year.

The old Coast Hotel, which houses the Hospitality Center, was built in Fort Bragg in 1892. It was one of the few structures on Franklin Street  to survive the 1906 earthquake.
