128 reopening announced at 830 PM- blocked both ways all day after crane falls over. Click here for the story updates

At 830 PM Manny Macado from Caltrans notified me the road had just been reopened. It was closed to traffic both ways for six hours
Foks, the rest of the story below is moot, but its a bit tiresome how many folks want to quarrel over whether 128 flows south or east when you go from Boonville to Cloverdale, or what happened to the crane. I thank Caltrans for giving us excellent updates all evening. I also relied on CHP online logs, a person I called who had been at the scene and people who talked to the guys blocking the road.
Information in a story like this is not a nitpicking contest. They give the info as it comes and the ENTIRE FOCUS IS TO FIND OUT IF ANYONE WAS INJURED AND WHEN THE ROAD WILL REOPEN. Its very long and tedious work to get through if Im not there and indeed if the officials giving me info are not there. We told everything we could. Road closed after 2, reopened around 8:30.
CHP log said crane fell off truck. Later, they reported it tipped over. A guy who knew what happened said it fell onto a dump truck. Im not a bad person nor are the authorities for reporting what was reported, its just how things work foks.
the rest is below..
UPDATE at 7:05 pm from CHP. Tipped over crane back on its wheels. Road reopening set for 8.
UPDATE at 6:20 PM, Manny Machado of Caltrans just told me the road is still closed. He is making calls to see when it might reopen.
UPDATE at 7 PM from Machado. “Route 128 in Mendocino County is currently closed, extending from Mountain House Road to U.S. 101 in Cloverdale, Sonoma County. On Monday, at approximately 2 p.m., a crane involved in a road construction project fell onto its side. No injuries were reported and reopening of the roadway is not known at this time. Please contact the CHP for additional information”
Stay tuned and DONT GO THAT WAY!!
Highway 128 between Yorkville and Cloverdale was closed between 2:17 PM AND 5 pm at least, perhaps longer. A construction crane fell off a trailer, we were told early on, but it may be that the crane just tipped over or that it fell on a car. We have been told all three versions by authorities and witnesses. UPDATE- we have just been told the crane merely fell onto its side, but is very very heavy. It was righted about 7 pm. One more hour of closures No injuries were reported, but the CHP closed Highway 128 in both directions. At 3:22 pm we got news that the closure had been extended both ways. Then at 5 pm Caltrans posted that the road was closed in both directions 1.9 miles north of the Sonoma/Marin County line. So the road was closed both ways for 6 hours. Avoid anyway is my advice
More when get it, take a different route till you hear! Just use 253 is our advice.
No response from CHP communication office, gone at 5. Caltrans posted an update just before 5. No response. Ill try Caltrans.
