1/2 acre fire in Navarro off Flynn Creek Road near Bald Hill being fought by Cal Fire

Update- We have learned from Chuck Wilcher on the MCN Listserve that a sharp-eyed employee of Anderson Logging called in the fire and that the volunteer fire departments nearby both arrived and the fire was out quickly. Mop up crews remain on scene but its nothing to worry about at this point. Wilcher said power lines may have casued it. We weren’t going to report that without verification but then Chris Hayter showed us that Watch Duty showed that power went out in the area at the same time. Still not 100 percent but enough to report. As we know, power lines are a big issue in fire country, so we will seek cause of fire on this small fire too.

Cal Fire is dealing with a half-acre blaze near Comptche off Flynn Creek Road, which they have sensibly named the Flynn Fire.

The response arrived just before 2 p.m on Wednesday, according to the National Interagency Fire Center. The Watch Duty app shows it in the general vicinity of the Taylor Ranch and lands owned by the Mendocino Redwoods Company. Watch Duty posted at 3:30 pm that forward progress had been stopped. It was still on Watch Duty at 4:43 pm but no updates. We have to assume the small fire has been contained and is no longer an issue, if fire crews have been on the scene of a half acre fire for three hours.

Where is it?

There are a number of 10 acre residential parcels in what is now commonly called Navarro. We have no idea if the fire is under contorl, or posts any threat to anyone. Its the first wildfire that has come on our notification system this year, but likely not the last. We will try to find out more, but that’s generally difficult. Look here, we will be giving updates. Watch Duty posted at 227 pm on Wed. We are on the road today and this is all we have.

We put some effort into this fire, where we would not in deep forests usually, knowing the Navarro Ranch story and all the activity hidden away deep in the forest there.

Here is a map of the area from Land Id.com We got their permission to use photos in stories with credit.

PHoto screenshot from LandID.com, they have given us permission to use in news, but not to be used commercially. The fire is halfway between Bald Hill at the bottom and the search bar, according to Watch Duty. Updates when we get them
