Police chief says search for missing Fort Bragg teen is top priority

FORT BRAGG, CA., 12/10/24 — The Coast Guard’s big helicopters searched Monday for a missing Fort Bragg teen, whose family reported him missing after Saturday’s Lighted Truck Parade in downtown Fort Bragg. Dog search teams were on the way, Fort Bragg’s Police Chief Neil Cervenka told the City Council Monday night.

Roy, 15, left with friends to see the Lighted Truck Parade in Fort Bragg on Saturday evening at 6 p.m. from Whipple and Oak streets. A trans teen, Roy was wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans, and white sneakers when he left for the parade.

Cervenka told the council that rumors on social media about the involvement of a tan van have been investigated and dispelled as irrelevant.

“We have confirmed that there was no van involved, and we have confirmed there were multiple sightings of the missing juvenile after the alleged van incident where the juvenile was alone walking,” Cervenka explained

“Today [Monday] the Coast Guard helicopter came down from Humboldt Bay, flew the coast and the headlands searching. They were in the area for about 30 minutes. That’s about all the fuel they have when they get down here. Nothing was found,” Cervenka said.

On Tuesday, searchers with four legs will join the hunt for the missing teen.

“Mendocino County Search and Rescue Team is coming tomorrow to do a detailed foot search, and they’re bringing three canine tracking teams. We’re working closely with the family,” Cervenka told the council.

Cervenka said the police department sent its Care Response Unit into the local schools to get information to help in the search.

“We have sent our CRU team members to the school to talk to school officials and all of the friends and re-interview everyone. This is a top priority for the police department. We have dedicated a lot of resources to trying to find this missing juvenile and bring him home,” Cervenka said.

Anyone with information about Roy’s whereabouts, please contact Sergeant McLaughlin at (707) 964-0200.
