Fire reported on Sherwood Road Wednesday morning—only fire in entire state south of Oregon border area

Sherwood Road Fire Reported This Morning—Yes, That Name Again
A half-acre fire was reported this morning off Fort Bragg Sherwood Road about 5-8 miles east of Fort Bragg, according to the Watch Duty app.
Update at 8 50 am. Forward progress of the fire has been stopped. Has not grown beyond 1/2 acre, Two state engines, one crew and water tender are on scene, all else sent back home
It’s currently the only active fire showing statewide, aside from two remote blazes in Siskiyou County that are largely under control. What a difference the rains made—more than a dozen small fires snuffed out by the first downpour still linger on the map as ghost markers.
In a move that defies logic (or at least originality), this fire has been given the same generic moniker as the one two weeks ago in the same area: The Company Fire. The completely idiotic. fire naming scheme in California must change. Firefighters do such a good job to be saddled with such a dopey system. Name it something nearby!
We first heard about the fire via KOZT news. Joe Regeliski checked in at the fire station and confirmed that one truck had been dispatched. The massive multi-agency responses we documented last week—upgraded and impressive—have now returned to standard protocol.
More rain is in the forecast over the next week, Joe told us.
We’re tracking updates and seeking more information.
